Spotlight On Showman - Kaylea Felten
We were so lucky to get the meet Kaylea and her family this last spring! Watching Kaylea pickup on new skills throughout the show season was very fun to watch. Kaylea, we know you are one to watch out for in the future and can’t wait to see you in the ring next year! We would also like to thank you for sharing some info about yourself and about your first year showing.
In March, I went to Warrensburg to White House Genetics owned by Andrew and Stephanie White. I picked out my first pig and named her Rosie. Rosie was one of my first projects for 4-H. I have had lots of fun watching her grow and taking her to shows. It was fun to have Andrew and Stephanie come to some of the pig shows and watch me show Rosie. They gave me some good pointers! Rosie and I placed first in my class at our local 4-H county fair. I know that I didn’t want to see Rosie leave the farm so I decided to breed her. I think Rosie will be a good mom to her piglets and feed them when they are hungry!
Now I, Kaylea Felten, am here to become a big pig farmer. This is a big job for one girl to do while school is happening! I invested money to put up a farrowing house for Rosie and her very special piglets. My Dad has run electricity down to the pig house and has helped me make sure everything is ready to go. When Rosie comes back I will be happy to see and take care of her.
I am very excited to start showing again and working towards my next 4-H project. I would also like to say thank you to the White’s and to my mom and dad for helping me get started in the pig business!
